Local Charity of the Year
Each year we support another local charity that is making a difference to the lives of residents and the wider community.
We do this primarily by raising money for this charity at our special events, particularly our Christmas and Easter services, and through our car park over the Christmas season.
Local charities we have supported in the past include the Seaview Project, Hastings Furniture Service (HFS), Hope Kitchen, Surviving Christmas, the Snowflake Night Shelter and more.
As well as raising money, we also aim to build a relationship with each charity that lasts beyond the year that we support them. This has meant, for example, a team from King’s sleeping out in cardboard boxes overnight as part of the Seaview Project’s Big Sleep fundraising event.
This year our charity of the year is the Association of Carers who are a local charity that provides free, volunteer-led services to unpaid carers in Hastings and Rother (plus the wider East Sussex area). A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This can be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse difficulties. By providing free regular support to carers, the charity aims to promote carer wellbeing, support independence and reduce the sense of isolation that is felt by a lot of carers. It is estimated that there are nearly 25,000 unpaid carers in Hastings and Rother. Last year our charity of the year was Xtrax, supporting local young people. In contrast, many of those supported by the Association of Carers are over retirement age – in fact, a number are over 80 and frail themselves, yet caring for a loved one. The charity provides much needed support, respite and connection. To donate, text CARERCOFFEE along with the amount in whole pounds to 70085. Or You can donate to them online by clicking here.
We support each charity from September through to the following August, so if you would like to nominate a charity for our support in the future, please get in touch with us in the summer for consideration.
